Captains Corner - 05/06/2021
Captain’s Corner.
We returned to racing this week with the much anticipation of the first race in the Elvis league of 2021 season.
Only 6 weeks ago the meeting of Elvis clubs was attended by myself and Timi, at this meeting it looked likely that we were not going to be able to host a race, but we managed to convince them that we could get a course and race on within the Covid guidelines. And at this point I have to say a massive well done and thank you to both David O'Brien and Timi Veerasamy for their relentless effort getting permits, sorting the course and all the work that went on behind the scenes and the sacrifice and support given by family, if it was not for them this would not of happened.. so thank you Timi and David.
Onto race day and we again have to say thank you to all you volunteers/Marshall’s and support network. This was a real team effort that a few of us had the pleasure of taking part in the race, so here’s a big round of applause for;
Sam Veerasamy, Kresh Veerasamy, Simon Childs, Rob Newton and family, Pascalia Pamba, Peter O'shea, Beverley Eagles, Yolanda Ceveira, Craig Chappell, Julie Dalphinis, Sarah Horne, Allan Horne, Emma O'Shea, Lorraine Moor Hilton, Jennifer Akroyd and girls, Christine Lardner, Mike Lardner, Debbie Joy, Sharon Robinson, Jenny O'Hanlon, Ian Cummins, Tony Woodgate, Pebbles Wyard, Andy Beazeley who all gave a lift to the runners and without them all again we would not have been able to get this on.
A special mention to Bea-Toyo Og and family along with Allan, Kresh and Rob Courtier turned up early to man the start point early in the afternoon.
With all the names mentioned it just goes to show how much effort and organisation this takes to get on and especially with the short notice we had.
***A TRUE TEAM EFFORT**
With the hot sun during the day everyone thought it was going to be tough run, but as we warmed up and headed to the start line it cooled down nicely and had a light touch of rain in the air although this didn’t dampen everyone’s spirit. The return of club colours and seeing friends again put a smile on everyone’s face and there was a great atmosphere.
Peter Salmon set the 88’s off and came back in a great time of 32:03 and came 28th overall which is an amazing result. Well done mate.
Tom Sargeant came in with a time of 35:28 and although chipped timed Billy Walkington on a time 35:31 was hot on his heels, that could have been an interesting race if it was not chip timed!
Nat Booth was our first women home and 4th overall in a time of 39:28, well done Nat.
Michael Pegnall came home next in 41:21 and then a bunch of 88’s (but spread apart). Nils Hollmann on 43:44, Jason Manning on 43:55, I came next on 44:12, Rosina Salmon with a time 45:49, Gary Cardnell on 46:51 and Louise Honey Chappell 46:58.
Lynton Fairman was next in on 49:42. Then Irene Campen on 54:15, we’ll done Irene that was a great effort! Last of the 88’s but not least was Lee Davis on 1:10:54 and again well done Lee and well done to all those
There are a lot of photos around so thanks to Yolanda, Pascalia, Sam, Craig, Jason Li (Presentation photos) and my son who managed to get out of his room with his camera and enjoyed to the extent he wants to come to Olympic Park with us for the next fixture.
A nice catch up in May and Bakers club house too.
If this has wetted your appetite I hope to see you all entering upcoming races, we are all there for each other, so come along!!!
Stay safe, healthy and injury free and carry on running.
